Minister of Trade Republic Indonesia Confirms Kratom Exports Are Not Prohibited
Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) emphasized that kratom exports are currently not prohibited. This is because there are no specific binding regulations regarding the export of these plants.
“There are no regulations yet that prohibit it. So, this is still under discussion regarding whether this is prohibited or not, whether this contains psychotropic substances or not. We will follow it if there is a decision,” said the Director General of National Export Development, Didi Sumedi, Ministry of Trade. in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara, last Thursday (5/10).
Until now, continued Didi, the discourse on kratom export regulations is still at the discussion stage between ministries and institutions such as the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Trade, Customs and Excise, Ministry of Finance, and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN).

"Kratom Exports Are Legal" - Customs Urges Exporters Not To Worry
The Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, West Kalimantan, said that exporting kratom plant products abroad is legal. Therefore, customs asked kratom entrepreneurs in West Kalimantan not to hesitate and worry about exporting. Even kratom or mitragina speciosa has a harmonized system code or export HS code. Based on national data for 2021 alone, the recorded export value of kratom reached 500 billion rupiah. However, the export value from West Kalimantan is only 10 percent of this figure. Meanwhile, West Kalimantan is the main kratom producing region. For this reason, West Kalimantan Customs and Excise is encouraging kratom exports to be carried out directly, via West Kalimantan. Moreover, the West Kalimantan region, especially Kapuas Hulu Regency, is a producer of the best quality kratom products. Most of the products are kratom powder, most of which are exported to countries in Europe and America. Customs and Excise ensures that they will provide facilities for the public, as long as there is no ban on the export of kratom. During the pandemic, kratom is considered to be able to improve the community’s economy and bring in foreign exchange for the country. In West Kalimantan, the kratom plant has become a favorite crop and is a source of livelihood for the people in Kapuas Hulu Regency. Not only does it grow because it is planted, kratom also grows wild in settlements, riverbanks, and even forests in the interior of Kapuas Hulu.
